ATLANTA – Reigning Sun Belt Conference champions Georgia State men’s soccer kicks off the 2019 season Thursday night as the Panthers travel to face Presbyterian in Clinton, S.C. before returning to Atlanta to host Belmont on Monday night at the GSU Soccer Complex.


- Presbyterian finished the 2018 season with an 8-12-0 overall record, falling the Campbell in the Big South Tournament Championship 1-0. The Blue Hose have 13 new players joining the team for 2019 including five true freshmen and eight transfers.
- PC was picked to finish fourth in the Big South preseason poll for the second straight season.
- Georgia State owns an 8-1-0 all-time record against Presbyterian, including a perfect 5-0 mark at home and a 3-1 record on the road. GSU enters Friday’s contest on a seven-match win streak against the Blue Hose.


- Belmont went 4-12-2 last year but returns 13 players from last season, including Ares Marlonsson and Niccolo Dagnoni, who combined for seven goals and nine assists in 2018.
- The Bruins were selected to finish in fifth place in the 2019 SoCon Preseason Coaches’ Poll. Dagnoni was named to the preseason all-conference team after posting three goals and four assists during his freshman campaign.
- GSU holds a 10-2 record against Belmont in the all-time series, including a 5-1 mark at home, a 4-1 record on the road and is 1-0 against the Bruins at neutral sites. The Panthers won their most recent outing against Belmont 2-1 last year in Nashville, Tenn.


- Georgia State finished last season with an 11-6-3 record and enters the year as reigning Sun Belt Regular Season and Tournament Champions. The blue and white will look to repeat as conference champions and earn back-to-back trips to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.
- GSU returns 17 players from last year’s championship squad, including eight returning starters.
- GSU had five players selected to the 2019 Preseason All-Sun Belt team, including Aris Briggs, Kyle Clinton, Logan Luque, George Proctor and Paul Tyson. Clinton was named the league’s preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
- The Panthers are 4-5 in season openers under head coach Brett Surrency, who enters his 10th year at the helm.
