CARTERSVILLE, Ga. - Competing in Georgia for the only time this season, Georgia State’s cross country team ran the Stan Sims Invitational Friday evening against a handful of Division-I schools including host Kennesaw State.

For head coach Chris England, Friday was an opportunity to see some of his newcomers compete as he rested his usual squad ahead of next week’s challenging meet at Appalachian State. Junior Melanie Hamilt was GSU’s top finisher with a 5k time of 20:16.

Freshman Alaina Tomlinson was right behind Hamilt, coming in at 20:18. Fellow freshman Molly Morris finished at 22:05 followed by freshmen Alex Sparks and Audrey Tomlinson and sophomore Maiya Newton.

The Panthers head to Boone, N.C. next weekend to run in the Appalachian State Invitational.
