ATLANTA – Georgia State cross country runner Angela Alonso won the Trojan Invitational and led the Panthers to a team victory to earn the Georgia State Student-Athlete of the Week award, powered by the U.S. Marines.

Alonso, a freshman from Valladolid, Spain, finished the 5k with a time of 19:16:41, topping teammate Jordan Townsley by 17 seconds. With her leading the way, Georgia State claimed six of the top seven spots on the same course that will host the Sun Belt Conference Championship on Oct. 29.

It marked the third top 10 finish for Alonso in her first three collegiate events. Earlier this month, she earned a fourth place finish at the JSU Struts Invitational and followed that with a ninth place finish at the UTA Gerald Ritchey Invite.

Georgia State will return to action this Saturday for the Upstate Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C.
