ATLANTA – The Georgia State baseball team added three student-athletes who signed a National Letter of Intent during the early signing period, head coach Greg Frady announced Wednesday. The trio includes a pair of pitchers and a centerfielder who will play for the Panthers starting with the 2009 season.

“Coach [Brad] Stromdahl and our entire coaching staff have done a fabulous job with recruiting over the past year and a half,” said Frady. “We wanted to get difference makers on and off the field and were very specific about the type of person and player we wanted to join our program. Ryan, Antonio and Nick are a perfect fit and will help take Georgia State baseball to the national level.”

The 2007-2008 early signing class includes:
Ryan Moore, RHP, 6-7, 200 lbs., R/R
Kennesaw, Ga. (Young Harris JC/North Cobb Christian HS)

Antonio Callaway, OF, 5-11, 190 lbs., R/R
Lilburn, Ga. (Chattahoochee Valley CC/Shiloh HS)

Nick Squeglia, RHP, 5-11, 195 lbs., R/R
Lawrenceville, Ga. (Collins Hill HS)

Frady’s first recruiting class at Georgia State (2006-2007) garnered national attention after SEBaseball.com ranked it as a top-50 recruiting class in the Southeast. The complete 2007 class featured 13 players including seven freshmen, four junior college players, two four-year transfers with one draft pick.

Ryan Moore in action for Young Harris College.
Ryan Moore

A relief pitcher and spot starter for Rick Robinson at Young Harris last spring ... This fall he posted a 3-0 record in 25 innings, allowing only 16 hits, three earned runs, seven walks with 31 strikeouts and 1.08 ERA ... As a freshman, went 2-0 and was winning pitcher in the GJCAA Region XVII championship game, which earned the team a spot in the JUCO World Series ... Helped the Mountain Lions completed 2007 with a record of 46-22 and an eighth-place finish in the nation ... As senior at North Cobb Christian, he went 6-2 and earned all-region honors while helping his team to the 2006 GISA Class AAA state title ... Ryan is the son of David and Lisa Moore of Kennesaw, Ga.

Frady on Moore: “Ryan brings tremendous winning experience to Georgia State from both Young Harris College and North Cobb Christian High School. Coach Robinson and his staff have built a winning tradition at Young Harris and it is wonderful to have a pitcher of Ryan’s caliber on the mound for Georgia State next season. Ryan will fit into the mix immediately having command of many pitches and the velocity to back them up.”

Antonio Callaway in action for Shiloh High School.
Antonio Callaway

Starting centerfielder and 3-hole hitter for Adam Thomas at CVCC ... Batted .344 with 12 doubles, 49 RBIs and 34 stolen bases last season for the Pirates ... Helped team finish with a 41-17 record and a third-place finish in the ACCC in 2007 ... Played for the Lima (Ohio) Locos of the collegiate wooden-bat Great Lakes League last summer, hitting .279 and earning the nod as the starting centerfielder for the Red All-Star team ... Under Matt Champitto at Shiloh High School, Callaway was a two-time All-Gwinnett County selection and Georgia Dugout Club participant with Team Georgia versus the U.S. National Team ... Antonio is the son of Tony and LaTonya Callaway of Lilburn, Ga.

Frady on Callaway: “Antonio brings speed, power and an incredible work ethic to our program. He drives the ball to all fields and will make an immediate impact both offensively and defensively. His accolades both in the classroom and on the field make Antonio a true Division I student-athlete and we are excited to have him in our program.”

Nick Squeglia in action for Collins Hill High School.
Nick Squeglia

Follows in the pitching-rich tradition of Collins Hill and head coach Paul Pierce ... Finished with a 4-2 record and a 2.50 ERA while striking out 28 batters in 33.2 innings last spring as a junior ... Selected as Georgia Dugout Club Player of the Week last year and helped the Eagles finish with a 16-10 overall record and 8-8 mark in the region ... Nick is the son of Dominick and Cynthia Squeglia of Lawrenceville, Ga.

Frady on Squeglia: “Nick has made incredible jumps in both velocity and mound presence over the past few months. He has control over a slider, which is a definite Division I out pitch, and has the makings of a great collegiate pitcher. Nick will be able to establish himself early next fall as he continues to grow and develop this spring and summer. We expect to see great things out of him at State.”

The trio completes Georgia State’s early signing class, but Frady and the Panthers will add to the group in the spring when the late signing period begins on April 9, 2008.
