Emerson, Ga. -- Georgia State fell to Bowling Green 4-1 Friday at the LakePoint Sporting Community in Emerson, Ga. Ryan Blanton's solo home run was
the Panthers' only run.
Blanton hit his team-leading third homer, the 18th of his career, in the sixth inning, but the Panthers (7-6) managed only one other hit, a single
by Jaylen Woullard.
Bowling Green (2-9) starter Tyler Anderson pitched into the seventh inning, allowing one run on two hits with four strikeouts and three walks. The
Panthers' scoring chances came in the sixth inning. After Blanton's homer, GSU loaded the bases with two outs on an error and two walks, but
Anderson induced an inning-ending groundout to work out of the jam.
After Anderson walked Darius Sewell to lead off the seventh inning, Anderson gave way to Kody Martin. Martin began his outing by walking Woullard
to put runners at first and second with no outs, but then the left-hander retired nine straight to earn his first save.
Bowling Green got on the board early with a two-run homer by Greg Basalgya in the first inning. The Falcons added another run in the second on an
RBI-double by Jeff Scott, but after that GSU starter Bryce Conley (2-2) retired 13 out of 14 batters until Bowling Green pushed across its fourth
run in the seventh. Conley pitched seven innings, allowing four runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.
Jansen Acton relieved Conley and finished the game with two scoreless innings.
The Panthers' weekend at LakePoint continues Saturday with a 2 p.m. game against Army.
