ATLANTA--Georgia State catcher Nick Gatewood has been named a National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

The junior from Duluth, Ga., added National Player of the Week honors from Perfect Game and College Sports Madness, and was also named Community Coffee Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week for the second time in his career.

The junior from Duluth, Ga., was 8-for-15 with four home runs, 11 RBI and nine runs scored in four games last week, including the Panthers' three-game sweep of Arkansas State.

He hit .533 on the week, with a .619 on-base percentage and a 1.400 slugging percentage while catching 34 of the Panthers' 35 innings.

Gatewood began the week with back-to-back two-homer games. Against Furman, he hit two solo homers and a two-run single before he was intentionally walked twice.

In Friday's 12-3 win over Arkansas State, he hit a solo homer and a two-run blast, and he added a three-run double, a single and two walks in Saturday's 16-7 victory.

In Sunday's 3-2 win, Gatewood drove in one of the Panthers' three runs with a sacrifice fly, extended his hitting streak to 14 games with a single and was outstanding behind the plate, including a key block on a ball in the dirt with the tying run at third base in the eighth inning.

For the season, Gatewood is hitting .385 with 11 home runs, 35 RBI and 30 runs scored. He is 11th in the nation and second in the Sun Belt in homers, as well as third in the conference in batting and RBI.

Behind the plate, he has thrown out 10 of 26 runners attempting to steal and picked off two others.

Gatewood's selection is seventh Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week honor but sixth in the last five years.
