STATESBORO, GA- The fall 2017 season got off to a great start for Georgia State women’s tennis as Daniela Ramirez won the singles title at the tournament hosted by Georgia Southern this weekend. Ramirez defeated fellow Panther, Damira Muminovic to claim the championship. Ilona Golynker also participated in the tournament for GSU.

Ramirez showed great resolve battling adversity on her way to the finals. Both sets in the junior’s first match were close, with Daniela sneaking out 7-5 wins. On day two Ramirez faced Georgia Southern’s Charlotte van Diemen. Ramirez won the first set, but dropped set two. However, Daniela would rally in set three to take the match 6-4, 2-6, 6-1, earning her a spot in the finals.

Muminovic cruised to the finals, only dropping one game in her first four sets of play. She would team up with Ramirez for the doubles portion of the tournament. The two would reach the semifinals of the doubles bracket.

Golynker teamed up with van Diemen of Georgia Southern for doubles action. The two would drop the match 6-4 to a pair from Chattanooga.

Georgia State will continue fall action next weekend. The Panthers will head to Dallas for a tournament hosted by SMU.
