What you need to know:

*Georgia State women’s tennis begins the fall schedule at the SMU Invitational in Dallas this weekend.

*The event will be the first in the collegiate careers of freshmen Andreea Stanescu and Eva Chivu.

*GSU will face opponents from multiple Power 5 conference teams over the course of the three-day tournament.


ATLANTA- Georgia State women’s tennis heads to Dallas this weekend for the SMU Invitational, the first of three fall dates this season. Tournament play will begin Friday morning and conclude Sunday afternoon. It will be the first event for the Panthers since their NCAA Tournament appearance last May.

In addition to facing players from Southern Methodist, GSU will face opponents from Kansas, Texas A&M, Mississippi State, Austin Peay, and Middle Tennessee State during the three day event.

Returning for the Panthers is Second-Team All-Sun Belt selection Damira Muminović, as well as seniors Daniella Ramirez and Lara Vovk, and junior Anastasia Grosheva. Freshmen Andreea Stanescu and Eva Chivu will both make their collegiate debuts this weekend.

This will be the second straight season that the Panthers have opened up the fall slate at the SMU Invitational. The ITA Regional tournament at Georgia Tech (October 18-22), and The Auburn Invitational (October 26-28) will round out autumn play.
