ATLANTA – Georgia State women’s tennis coach Jason Marshall announced the signing of Elizabet Danailova from Sofia, Bulgaria on Monday. Danailova will join the Panthers when the season gets underway in a few weeks.
Danailova comes to Georgia State as one of the top ranked juniors from Bulgaria. In the last five years, she has placed in the top three of the Bulgaria summer or winter National Championship six times, including a pair of tournament titles in singles in 2012 and 2013. She was also a part of doubles championships in 2013, 2015 and 2016, along with a second place finish in 2014.
"We are really excited to have Elizabet join our team,” Marshall said. “I had the opportunity to spend time with her and her family and she is a person with strong character and a determined work ethic. She has won multiple Bulgarian national championships and has even represented her country in the European championships. We look for her to make an impact immediately in the top part of our lineup with her playing experience."
On the international scene, Danailova has won ITF Juniors G5 titles in Albania, Luxembourg and Bulgaria, while earning second place finishes in the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Turkey.
Danailova has been a member of the Bulgarian national team since 2012 and played for the national team nine times in the European Team Winter and Summer Cups, along with four times at the European Junior Championships.
Georgia State will begin practice for the 2017-18 season in late August and open the regular season at the Georgia Tech Invitational Sept. 22.
