ATHENS,GA: Georgia State’s opening day at a pre-season scrimmage in Athens was highlighted by a big win from freshman Elizabet Danailova. Danailova defeated UGA’s Kennedy Shaffer 2-6, 6-54 10-6. Shaffer is one of the top players in the nation, earning All-American and All-SEC honors last season.

“It is a huge confidence booster for Elizabet”, said coach Jason Marshall. “She has the talent to be one of the best players in college tennis, and now she is beginning to realize she can play with anyone in the country.”

Danailova and the rest of the Panthers will battle UGA again tomorrow for singles and doubles action. GSU is on the road again next weekend for the SMU Winter Invitational, before beginning the regular season in Auburn the following week.
