BIRMINGHAM- Georgia State women’s tennis swept a pair of matches against Birmingham foes on Friday. The Panthers are now 5-3 on the season with four straight wins. GSU defeated UAB 4-2, and followed it up with a 4-1 win over Samford.
The Panthers dropped the doubles point in the morning match, but quickly overcame UAB in singles play. Arina Taluyenko and Kristin Rehse won in straight sets to give GSU at 2-1 lead. Daniela Ramirez would add a three set win, and Lara Vovk would clinch the match with a straight set win in the six flight.
In the afternoon tilt the Panthers dropped the doubles point, but once again battled back. The top three GSU singles players, Rehse, Ramirez, and Danailova all earned wins. Damira Muminović clinched things for the Panthers from the four spot.
Georgia State is now on a four match winning streak and has improved their overall record to 5-3 on the season. GSU is next in action on Sunday facing Mississippi State.
