CONWAY, SC- Georgia State women’s tennis earned a big Sun Belt victory over Appalachian State on Saturday afternoon in Conway, South Carolina. The win improves GSU to 9-11 on the season.
Despite not having a number three doubles pair, GSU was still able to win the first point of the match. Damira Muminović and Kristin Rehse took their match 6-1, and Daniela Ramirez and Elizabet Danailova battled for a 7-5 victory to give GSU a 1-0 lead in the match.
“It was a great effort from Betti and Dani in doubles”, said Coach Jason Marshall. “They were down 5-2, but came all the way back to earn a 7-5 win and showed heart along the way.”
The score would even at 1-1 after the Panthers lost on court six in a walkover. GSU wasted no time getting the lead back as Muminović took a 6-2, 6-2 win.
Rehse would earn her team leading thirteenth win in a 6-2, 6-2 decision. Daniela Ramirez would get her tenth win of the season with a 6-2, 6-4 victory to clinch the match for State.
“Kristin’s leadership has been incredible all season long”, said Marshall. “She continues to lead the team on and off the court.”
The Panthers are back in action tomorrow for more Sun Belt play. GSU will take on Troy at 9:00 a.m. in Conway.
