ATLANTA- After nine matches on the road to begin the 2019 season, Georgia State women’s tennis will finally have a home match as they take on UT Martin Sunday afternoon at Life Time Athletic and Tennis at Peachtree Corners.
Action begins at 3:00 p.m. when GSU (2-7) takes on UT Martin (1-5) at the indoor facility. The Panthers were originally scheduled to play a doubleheader Sunday featuring a match with rival Georgia Southern, but the match was postponed. Georgia State will take on Georgia Southern on March 9 at GSU Clarkston.
Through nine matches, the Panthers have been led by senior Daniela Ramirez who posts a 6-3 record in singles play. Ramirez is 2-0 when playing in the number two flight, and owns wins over opponents from No. 40 Denver and No. 43 Alabama. The senior’s six singles wins is tied for third most among all Sun Belt players.
Freshman Eva Chivu returned to the most recent ITA National Singles Rankings, checking in at 102. It is the highest career ranking for Chivu who recently beat No. 62 Andie Daniell of Alabama in two sets. Chivu is 3-5 in singles play this season with all action coming in the number one position.
