*Georgia State women’s tennis won a pair of matches at GSU Clarkston Campus Saturday.
ATLANTA- Georgia State women’s tennis won a pair of matches against Troy and Emory Saturday at the GSU Clarkston Courts. With the wins, State improved to 9-12 on the season and 4-5 in Sun Belt play.
The Panthers fell behind early against Troy on all three doubles courts, but Lara Vovk and Anastasia Grosheva would overcome the deficit to win on court three, and Eva Chivu and Daniela Ramirez would rally to get the victory on court one to earn the doubles point for GSU.
Troy would even the score winning on court four, but Ramirez would give GSU a 2-1 lead with a two set win on the number two singles court. Moments later Damira Muminovic would make it 3-1 winning on court three, and Grosheva would provide the clinching point with a two set win on court six.
In the afternoon match, Andreea Stanescu and Muminovic would win on doubles court two, but GSU would stumble on courts one and three to trail Emory 1-0 heading into singles play. Muminovic would be quick erasing the deficit with a 6-2, 6-2 win on court three.
The Panthers would take a 3-1 lead in the match behind wins from Stanescu and Ramirez, but GSU would fall in three sets on courts one and four. Senior Anastasia Grosheva would secure the win for the Panthers with a 6-3 third-set win on court six.
Tomorrow GSU will wrap up the regular season with a match against conference leading South Alabama at the Peachtree City Tennis Center. Following the 1:00 p.m. match seniors Lara Vovk, Daniela Ramirez, and Anastasia Grosheva will be honored in a joint senior day ceremony with the men’s tennis team.
