NEW ORLEANS - LaPorscha Wells was named the Sun Belt Field Athlete of the Week Wednesday after an impressive performance at the Emory Classic last weekend in Atlanta.

Wells won the Hammer Throw on Day 1 of the Emory Classic with a throw of 61.25m (200' 11"). That mark broke her own school record and as of Monday led the Sun Belt conference by over 15 feet. The distance is ranked No. 6 in the NCAA East Region and No. 13 nationally.

She also placed second in the Shot Put behind teammate Alysiah Whittaker, ranking No. 4 in the conference in the event.

Earlier this semester, Wells became the first female track and field athlete at Georgia State to earn All-America honors from the USTFCCCA after a fifth-place finish in the Weight Throw at the 2017 NCAA Indoor Championships.
