What you need to know:
* Head coach Sally Polhamus and the Georgia State court volleyball program announced the signing of six student-athletes Tuesday. Five incoming freshman and one transfer join the Panther Family's winter signees Alexis Parrish and Jha'Meisheia Griffin.
* Carley Eiken, Džemila Hadžić, Cierra Sillmon, Savian Jordan, Paige Etherington and Kinkaid Padgett will join the Panthers this coming fall.
* GSU returns right side/outside hitter Anna Rantala, outside hitter Crystal Lee, setter Sarah Renner and libero Celeste Friesen. The Panthers also welcome back five other players who saw playing time in at least 75 sets last season. The team begins its season in late August.
ATLANTA – Georgia State court volleyball is pleased to announce the addition of six student-athletes to its program.
Head coach Sally Polhamus and GSU welcome Carley Eiken, Džemila Hadžić, Cierra Sillmon, Savian Jordan, Paige Etherington and Kinkaid Padgett to the Panther Family.
“Our 2017 Panther Family is complete,” Polhamus said earlier this week. “We are counting down the days until we report in August to begin training for the 2017 season. With six incredible additions to our team this spring, the depth, athleticism and volleyball IQ they each bring will make a major impact on our program. We are excited about the character and work ethic these players bring to our program, which is directly in line with our vision for them as student-athletes.”
Carley Eiken transfers to Georgia State from Armstrong State in Savannah, GA. The Dacula, GA native played in 34 matches and totaled more than 11 assists per set for the pirates and ranked in the top 20 in the nation in assist per set. Eiken was named to the Peach Belt Conference All Tournament team and the AVCA All Southeast Region Team as well as the Peach Belt Conference honor roll.
From Saravejo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Džemila Hadžić joins the Panther Family from IV Gymnasium High School. The right side and outside hitter helped her Žok Igman Senior Team to a first-place finish in the Ilidza Volleyball Cup in 2016. Hadžić also helped her junior national team to a fifth-place finish at the Balkan Championship.
Cierra Sillmon comes to Georgia State from Jonesboro, Ga. and Lovejoy High School. Sillmon lettered all four years under head coach John Holladay. She was named to the All-Area First Team and earned All-Area Player of the Year honors for the 2015-16 season.
Sillmon helped her club A5 South Volleyball place second in the Music City Qualifier and third in the Beast of the Southeast Tournament. She is a member of the National Honor Society and intends to major in Chemistry at GSU.
Savian Jordan joins the court volleyball program upon graduation from South Forsyth High School. From Alpharetta, Ga., Jordan ranks eighth among liberos in the state of Georgia and reached the 7-A State Championship match as a senior. Jordan also helped A5 Pure Volleyball to a Final Four appearance.
A native of Austin, Texas, Paige Etherington will attend Georgia State after graduating from Westwood High School. The setter earned All-State honors and First-Team All-District last year. Etherington broke her school's record for most assists in a match (56) and in a season (1,569).
For her club Austin Performance, she placed third at Junior Nationals and first at the Lone Star Tournament. Etherington has a 4.0 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society.
Kinkaid Padgett journeys to Georgia State from Muncie Central High School in Muncie, Ind. Padgett plays libero and defensive specialist for Muncie Central and Asics Munciana under head coach Mike Lingenfelter. The Indiana native started on her high school team that placed second in regionals back in 2014. In 2015, Padgett helped Asics Munciana to a 16-2 record on the season.
Georgia State and all six signees will begin preparation for the 2017 season this summer. The season is expected to begin in late August.
