ATLANTA-Playing in his first game with the Panthers, junior Dan Ellington led Georgia State football to a 24-20 win over Kennesaw State on Thursday night and has been named the Georgia State Student-Athlete of the Week.

Ellington led a final-minute drive that was capped by his game-winning touchdown pass with 41 seconds left.

The transfer from Itawamba (Miss.) C.C. completed 20 of 28 passes for 187 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. He was also the game's leading rusher with 77 yards on 18 carries.

Ellington drove the Panthers 73 yards on nine plays with no timeouts in the final two minutes, completing 5-of-8 passes for 55 yards on the winning march, capped by his 8-yard touchdown to Diondre Champaigne on a fade route to the right corner.

Ellington also had two touchdown passes in the final minute of the first half to turn a 14-0 deficit into a tie game at the intermission. First, he connected with Penny Hart for a 3-yard touchdown 50 seconds left in the half, capping an 11-play, 68-yard drive.

After an interception gave GSU another possession, Ellington drove the Panthers 37 yards in 37 seconds, hitting Christian Owens with a 6-yard TD in the right corner of the end zone to tie the game.

Georgia State again fell behind 20-14 late in the third quarter, but Ellington led a 13-play, 61-yard drive that resulted in a field goal to cut the deficit to 20-17 and set the stage for the winning touchdown.

The Panthers will return to the field on Saturday traveling to Raleigh, N.C., to face NC State. Kick-off is set for 12:30 p.m.
