What you need to know:

* On Saturday afternoon, Georgia State fell to Coastal Carolina in three sets. The Chanticleers took the match by a final of 11-25, 19-25 and 12-25.

* GSU fell to 6-8 in the Sun Belt and 10-15 overall. CCU improved to 13-1 in the Sun Belt and 22-4 overall. The Chanticleers won their 12th straight match on the season. Heading into the match, the Panthers held the second place spot in the East behind Coastal and the six seed in the SBC tournament.

* Freshman Morgan Hash led Georgia State offensively with nine kills to lead all attackers. Senior middle blocker Eliza Zachary supplemented the attack with five kills on the afternoon. Freshman Hanna Weiland led GSU with 11 assists and Celeste Friesen set the tone defensively with 12 digs.


CONWAY, S.C. – Georgia State fell to Coastal Carolina in three sets Sunday afternoon. The Chanticleers took the match by a final of 11-25, 19-25 and 12-25.

Head coach Sally Polhamus and GSU fall to 10-15 overall and 6-8 in the Sun Belt. Jozsef Forman and Coastal improve to 22-4 overall and 13-1 in the SBC with the team’s 12th consecutive victory.

The Panthers dropped the opening frame 11-25 before responding nicely in the second. Freshman Morgan Hash got going offensively to keep the match competitive. The Franklin, Ind. native finished the match with nine kills to lead all attackers to go along with her three digs.

Senior middle blocker Eliza Zachary was the second leading attacker for GSU with five kills. Freshman Hanna Weiland dished out a season-high 11 assists and Celeste Friesen added 12 digs to keep the Panthers in the match.

The Chanticleers carried a balanced offensive attack with four players totaling at least seven kills. Middle blocker Annayka Legros and outside hitter Tahleia Bishop set the tone with eight kills apiece.

Setters Sara Boothe and Kate Federico combined for 33 assists. Libero Carla Cahill and outside hitter Leah Hardeman stood out defensively with 16 and 13 digs respectively.

The Panthers head back to Atlanta and practice hard this week ahead of their home match on Thursday versus archrival Georgia Southern. GSU will play its final two matches against the Eagles.
