ATLANTA- Georgia State volleyball will be in Statesboro Wednesday evening for their penultimate match of the regular season. The Panthers will host Georgia Southern on Saturday for the regular season’s final match.
Georgia State will be looking to avenge a pair of losses last season at the hands of their instate rival. GSU owns a 15-11 advantage over Georgia Southern in the all-time series.
Wednesday’s match gives the GSU volleyball team a chance to help Georgia State extend their lead in the Rivalry Series with Georgia Southern. A half point will be awarded to the victorious school Wednesday evening. Georgia State has won the past two Rivalry Series trophies, and has a 4.5-0.5 lead entering play this week.
The Rivalry Series Trophy will not be the only prize on the line this week, as each team looks to keep Sun Belt Tournament hopes alive.
“We’re playing for a lot this week”, said Panther coach Sally Polhamus. “It’s the State not Southern rivalry, it’s the fight to get into the conference tournament, and it’s finishing strong. We always talk about playing our best volleyball at the end of the season and right now we have the opportunity to extend our season.”
Live stats will be available for the match, and live streaming will be available on ESPN3.
