What you need to know: 

*The Panthers open Sun Belt play with a 4-7 record. 

*Georgia State's blocking ranks second in the conference with an average 2.14 blocks per set. 

*GSU is 3-11 all-time against Coastal Carolina and 7-8 all-time against Appalachian State. 

ATLANTA- Georgia State will open Sun Belt play with a trip to the Carolinas this weekend. The Panthers will battle Appalachian State at 6:30 p.m. Friday night before traveling to Coastal Carolina for a 12:30 p.m. match on Sunday. 

GSU will have a tough task as the Mountaineers and Chanticleers are picked to be two of the best teams in the Sun Belt East Division this season. Appalachian State finished non-conference play with a 4-9 record. \While Coastal Carolina enters conference play with a 10-2 record. 

Despite being swept by both opponents last season, Meisheia Griffin recorded big performances. In a tight 3-2 match against Appalachian State she recorded 10 kills. In addition, she scored 15 points at home against Coastal Carolina, the team high. 

Sydney Stroud and Dzemila Hadzic lead the Georgia State offense going into Sun Belt action. Both hitters have posted over 80 kills. Lauren Bandera continues to lead the back row with 206 digs. She ranks second in the conference with an average 4.68 digs per set. At the net Griffin boosts the defensive effort with 46 blocks in the first nine meetings. Her average of 1.07 blocks per set is best for second in the conference.
