Georgia State will make its fourth appearance in the NCAA tournament beginning on Friday as a No. 15 seed facing No. 2 seed Cincinnati in a South Region first-round contest Nashville, Tenn., at 2 p.m. ET.
Georgia State (24-10) is making its second appearance in the ‘Big Dance’ in the last four years. In 2015, when a No. 14-seed, the Panthers became the Cinderella of the ‘Big Dance’ when R.J. Hunter hit a 30-foot 3-pointer with 2.6 seconds to play to stun No. 3-seed Baylor as head coach Ron Hunter fell off a stool. The elder Hunter had torn his Achilles in the Sun Belt Conference championship game celebration a week before. ‘The Shot’ capped a 13-0 run to finish the game with 12 of those points coming from R.J. Hunter.
Georgia State has won a game in the tournament in back-to-back appearances. In 2001, as a No. 11 seed, the Panthers upset No. 6 Wisconsin, 50-49 in the first round.
Georgia State will be facing Cincinnati (30-4) for the first time in program history.
