ATLANTA - Georgia State’s women’s basketball head coach Sharon Baldwin announced the signing of Shay Fluker Friday, a highly touted JUCO guard for the 2017-18 season.

Fluker played one year at Walters State CC in Morristown, Tenn., where she was named a second team All-American by the NJCAA. She broke a 31-year scoring record for the Lady Senators with 614 points last season. Fluker ranked 7th among all JUCO players in points and had an impressive stat line of 19 points per game and nearly five rebounds per game. Her performance last season earned her TCCAA Player of the Year honors.

“Our fans are going to love watching Shay play,” Baldwin said. “She’s an exciting player who handles the ball well and she can score in bunches. We are happy to welcome her to the Panther Family.”

Fluker played her freshman year at Chipola College in Marianna, Fla., before transferring to Walters State.

In high school, Fluker established a new career scoring record at Belleville West High School with more than 1,600 points. She averaged over 20 points a game her senior year and was nominated for Miss Basketball in Illinois and earned second team all-state recognition.

Georgia State is returning several players from last season including the 2016-17 Sun Belt Freshman of the Year Jada Lewis. The 2015-16 Sun Belt Freshman of the Year Madison Newby also returns after missing the majority of last season with an injury.
