ATLANTA - Georgia State used a season-best 15 steals to take down Jacksonville State 55-41 Tuesday afternoon in the Sports Arena.
The Panthers forced 22 turnovers and trailed for just eight minutes. Kierra Henry's 20 points led the Panthers in scoring as she reached double-digits for the ninth straight game. Madison Newby joined Henry in double figures with 15 points and she added five rebounds and four assists. Francesca Minali grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds and Janessa Murphy totaled five steals to go with seven rebounds.
Jacksonville State got off to a quick start and held the lead for the majority of the first quarter, but the Panthers outscored the Gamecocks 16-7 in the second period and never surrendered the lead.
The Panther defense held JSU to just 24% shooting from the field and kept the Gamecocks, who average eight 3-pointers a game, to 3-of-26 from long range.
Next up for Georgia State is the final non-conference contest of the season, a Thursday showdown at UNCW in Wilmington, N.C.
