NEW ORLEANS – Georgia State’s 10th seeded women’s basketball team was defeated 74-55 Tuesday evening by 7-seed Coastal Carolina in the first round of the 2018 Sun Belt Championship.

The Panthers got off to a good start, leading 15-14 at the end of the first quarter, but the Chanticleers took over in the second period and GSU was unable to claw back into the game.

Kierra Henry scored 11 of Georgia State’s first 15 points and GSU looked to be in position for a first-round upset. The Chanticleers would slow down the GSU offense and go on a 15-2 run in the second quarter to take control of the game.

After halftime, Coastal Carolina continued their run late into the third quarter before GSU was able to get a few fast-break points and slow down the Chanticleers.

Georgia State kept fighting the whole way, going on an 11-0 run midway through the fourth quarter to force CCU to call timeout.

Kierra Henry led the Panthers with 18 points and six rebounds. Janessa Murphy added 15 points and K.K. Williams finished with 13. Madison Newby led GSU in assists with five.
