ATLANTA- The Georgia State men’s and women’s soccer programs received the 2016-2017 College Team Academic Award from United Soccer Coaches, as announced by the association Thursday.
A total of 813 collegiate soccer teams were tabbed to the list, with 282 men’s teams and 531 women’s teams being honored. Georgia State is one of 195 schools to have both programs recognized, and only one of three Sun Belt schools to do so.
In order to be named to the list, a school must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale. For the 2016-2017 academic year, the GSU men’s team earned a 3.33 cumulative GPA while the GSU women’s team earned a 3.57 cumulative GPA.
The Panthers will hit the field with two weekend matches, as the women’s team faces Coastal Carolina tonight and the men’s team faces rival Georgia Southern on Saturday.
