ATLANTA – The Georgia State women’s soccer team aims for its first victory of the season this weekend, as the Panthers gear up to host Mercer on Friday and Jacksonville State on Sunday.
GSU (0-2-0) lost its first two matches of the year in similar fashion, with both its opponents scoring the go-ahead goal with under 10 minutes to play. Freshman goalkeeper Lydia Fraga made her college debut against Kennesaw State and made four saves to keep the Panthers in the game. Hannah Davis and Jocelyn Jones lead Georgia State in total shots with three apiece.
Mercer (2-0-0) comes off back-to-back dominant performances, outscoring its opponents 12-0 after two games. The Bears rank second nationally in points per game (15.50), shots per game (31.50) and goals per game (6.0). Mercer’s Sarah Adcock enters Friday’s contest tied for second in the nation in assists with three.
Friday will be the 27th meeting between Georgia State and Mercer. The Panthers lead the series 13-10-3, but Mercer won the most recent contest 1-0 last season.
