ATLANTA – Georgia State women’s soccer looks to string together three straight victories for the first time since the 2015 campaign, as the Panthers continue their conference slate this weekend with fixtures against Appalachian State on Friday and Coastal Carolina on Sunday.
GSU (4-9-1, 2-4 Sun Belt) comes off a 2-1 Senior Night victory over ULM last Friday, getting both its goals from senior forward Caitlin Ray. Her two goals are tied for the most in a single match for a Sun Belt player this year. Ray and fellow senior Monique Hundley both set new career-highs in the win, each notching four shots on goal in the match.
The Panthers’ offense has caught fire in its last two contests, averaging 25.0 shots and 16.5 shots on target per game. GSU enters the weekend ranked third in the conference in total shots with 174 and fourth in corner kicks with 65.
Appalachian State (7-5-1, 4-1 Sun Belt) returns to the pitch after a 1-0 shutout over Louisiana last Sunday. The Mountaineers have won four of their last five and rank third in the league with 19 total goals. Junior midfielder Maggie Hanusek leads Appalachian State with seven total points, scoring two goals and adding three assists.
Coastal Carolina (6-5-1, 5-1 Sun Belt) is riding a two-game winning streak after back-to-back shutouts against Louisiana and ULM. The Chanticleers will face Georgia Southern on Friday before heading to Atlanta to take on the Panthers on Sunday. Junior forward Baylee Price enters the weekend tied for fifth among all Sun Belt players in total goals with three.
