ATLANTA – Coming off a strong finish to the 2018 campaign, Georgia State women’s soccer looks to carry that momentum into the 2019 season as the Panthers announced their upcoming schedule for the fall Wednesday afternoon.
The Panthers will kick off the year with a pair of exhibitions, beginning with an away contest against Austin Peay on Aug. 12 followed by a match with Presbyterian on Aug. 17 at the GSU Soccer Complex.
“We have a talented and committed group of players that are really excited for the 2019 season,” GSU head coach Ed Joyce said. “The non-conference segment will test us and prepare us to compete in Sun Belt play.”
Georgia State opens the regular season with a tough test against Vanderbilt on Aug. 22, a team that earned the SEC Regular Season Title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last year.
GSU then returns to Atlanta for its first home match of the regular season against Kennesaw State on Aug. 25. Joyce’s club next travels to take on Davidson on Aug. 29 before a two-match home stretch against Alabama A&M on Aug. 31 and Chattanooga on Sept. 6.
The Panthers hit the road for back-to-back away contests against UAB on Sept. 8 and Mercer on Sept. 13, then welcome Georgia on Sept. 15 before hosting their conference opener on Sept. 20 against defending Sun Belt Tournament Champion Little Rock.
Georgia State will play four of its next five matches on the road, beginning with consecutive away games at Troy on Sept. 27 and South Alabama on Sept. 29. The blue and white will play their first home match of October against Arkansas State on Oct. 4, then head to Coastal Carolina on Oct. 11 and Georgia Southern on Oct. 13.
Joyce’s club will play three of its final four league matches at the GSU Soccer Complex. Georgia State hosts Louisiana on Oct. 18 and Texas State on Oct. 20, then travels to take on ULM on Oct. 25. The Panthers will conclude the regular season with a home contest against Appalachian State on Oct. 27.
The 2019 Sun Belt Championship will be held Nov. 6-10 at the Foley Sports Tourism Complex in Foley, Ala.
