NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Georgia State women’s soccer fell 7-0 to No. 17 Vanderbilt in its first regular season match of the 2019 campaign Thursday night at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex.
The defending Southeastern Conference regular season champions got off to a quick start, striking within the first two minutes of the match as Paola Ellis put the Commodores ahead 1-0 with a boot from just inside the 18-yard box.
Vanderbilt went on to scratch across a second goal in the 12th minute, as the Commodores connected on a corner kick from Madison Elwell. VU picked up right where it left off in the second half, getting two more goals from Ellis in the opening 16 minutes.
Haley Hopkins notched her second goal of the evening in the 68th minute to give Vandy a 5-0 lead. The Commodores again added to their lead in the 78th minute and 85th minute to cap off a 7-0 victory.
The Panthers ended the night with three total shots, coming from Lily Barron, Arianah Black and Emily Burke. Sophomore keeper Ashley Triplett tallied six total saves in her debut with the blue and white.
