What you need to know:
* Georgia State capped of a five-game weekend with a 6-4 win over Central Michigan Sunday in Clearwater, Fla.
* The Panthers went 3-2 at the USF Under Armour Invitational, winning three in a row on Saturday and Sunday.
* The Panthers host Michigan State on Tuesday at the Bob Heck Softball Complex.
CLEARWATER, Fla. - Georgia State used a five-run third inning to defeat Central Michigan 6-4 on Sunday, wrapping up the USF Under Armour Invitational with a 3-2 record. GSU returns home to host Michigan State Tuesday at Panthersville.
Georgia State was the away team Sunday and the score was locked at 0-0 until the Panthers erupted for five runs in the top of the third. Central Michigan would respond with two runs in the home half of the third. Georgia State scored an insurance run in the fifth and the Panthers held off a rally by the Chippewas who managed two more runs in the bottom of the fifth.
A Taylor Bradley walk and Morgan Brown single got things started in the third. Megan Litumbe’s RBI single provided the first score of the game and then Ivie Drake drew a walk to load the bases. Kensey Caldwell delivered with a two-RBI double to left field, scoring Litumbe and Kirsten McMonigle. Two more runs would come home in the inning thanks in part to an error by CMU.
Central Michigan used a two-RBI double of their own to pull closer in the third. In the top of the fifth, Drake led off with a double and the Panthers would add an insurance run on another error. In the bottom of the fifth, Central Michigan threatened with two runs on two hits, but the Panthers managed to stay on top and hold on to win 6-4.
Mandy Chance earned the win in the circle to improve to 4-2 on the season. Chance allowed two earned runs on seven hits and struck out three through 4.2 innings. Kinsley Jennings pitched the final 2.1 innings and held CMU hitless to pick up her second save of the season.
Georgia State improves to 13-8 on the season. The Panthers return to Atlanta to host Michigan State Tuesday at the Bob Heck Softball Complex at 5 p.m.
