* Georgia State lost 6-3 Wednesday night at No. 7 Auburn.
* The Panthers had eight hits, but stranded nine baserunners.
* Georgia State travels to Conway, S.C. to face Coastal Carolina for three games on Friday and Saturday.
AUBURN, Ala. - Georgia State (26-15) lost 6-3 Wednesday night at No. 7 Auburn at the Jane B. Moore Field. The Panthers brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh, but the rally fell short.
Auburn scored the first runs of the game with a big four-run inning in the bottom of the second. The Tigers got an RBI single to go up 1-0 before hitting a bases-loaded double that brought home all three baserunners.
Georgia State threatened with three straight singles to begin the top of the third, but a popout followed by a groundout double play ended the inning with the bases loaded.
Auburn tacked another two more runs in the bottom of the third with a two-run homer by Alyssa Rivera, putting Auburn in front 6-0.
The Panthers got on the board with Ivie Drake’s two-out RBI single in the fifth inning that scored Morgan Brown from second. After Megan Litumbe drew a walk and Taylor Chadwick pinch ran for Drake at second, Kensey Caldwell singled up the middle to score Chadwick and cut the Auburn lead down to four at 6-2.
Georgia State loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh, but Auburn got a big double play to win the game with only one run scoring in the inning.
Georgia State returns to Sun Belt play with a road trip to Coastal Carolina this weekend to face the Chanticleers in a doubleheader on Friday before playing the series finale on Saturday in Conway, S.C.
