ATLANTA – Georgia State’s softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against No. 18/19 Louisiana Saturday at the Bob Heck Softball Complex.

Game 1: LA 8, GSU 4

Louisiana used a five-run third inning to earn a win in Game 1 of the series. Starting Pitcher Summer Ellyson went 6.0 innings for the Ragin’ Cajuns and held Georgia State to one run on two hits.

The Panthers scored a run in the bottom of the third on an Ivie Drake groundout and then started a comeback in the bottom of the seventh.

Down 8-1, Remington Hasty led off the inning and flied out to left. However, Hasty was brought back to the plate as Louisiana had failed to report a pitching change to the umpire. On the next pitch, Hasty used her second chance to hit her third home run of the season.

On the very next pitch, Kristin Hawkins launched her first career home run to right-center.

On the next pitch, freshman Skylar Mosel hit GSU’s third straight home run. For Mosel, it was her third homer in the last five games.

The rally would come up short as Louisiana held on to win 8-4.

Game 2: LA 12, GSU 1

Georgia State managed six hits in Game 2 but was held to just one run.

Louisiana got off to a hot start with three runs in the top of the first, but GSU held the Ragin’ Cajuns scoreless until the sixth inning when Louisiana added three more runs.

In the top of the seventh, Louisiana pulled away with a grand slam to win 12-1.

Megan Litumbe brought in GSU’s lone run on an RBI-single in the third.

Georgia State hosts Louisiana Sunday at noon for Game 3 of the series.
