LAFAYETTE, La. – Georgia State’s softball team was sent home from the 2018 Sun Belt Championship with a pair of close losses Thursday at Lamson Park in Lafayette, La.

Game 1: #21 Louisiana 2, GSU 1

Kinsley Jennings threw an absolute gem of a game for the Panthers against the host Ragin’ Cajuns.

Jennings took a one-hitter into the sixth inning before the No. 23 Ragin’ Cajuns got on the board. For the game, Jennings went 5.1 innings allowing just one run on three hits.

Georgia State scored first on a clutch infield single by Remington Hasty in the top of the second inning. Skylar Mosel had stole second base and then advanced to third on a wild pitch when Hasty beat out a throw from the LA shortstop.

The Ragin’ Cajuns battled back to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth.

With the score tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Louisiana hit a groundball to the shortstop, but she was unable to get the force out at second base and the winning run came home for the Cajuns.

Game 2: UTA 2, GSU 0 (11 innings)

Mandy Chance and Kinsley Jennings combined to throw 10 scoreless innings against the Mavericks in the elimination game.

UTA scored the first runs of the game with the help of two errors by GSU in the top of the 11th.

The second error led to two runs scoring on a deep fly ball to center field.

Reagan Morgan led off the bottom of the inning with a lead-off single, but that was it for the Panthers as UTA escaped with the extra-inning victory.

Chance got the start and went 6.1 innings allowing four hits and no runs. Jennings threw the final 4.2 innings, allowing no earned runs on only one hit.

The Panthers fall to 31-24 in 2018.
