HONOLULU, Hawaii - Georgia State's softball team wrapped up the opening weekend of the 2019 season Saturday at the Hawaii Paradise Classic, facing off against UT Arlington and top-ranked UCLA.

Georgia State dropped both games 9-1 in six innings to fall to 0-5 on the season.

UTA jumped on top early thanks to a pair of defensive miscues by the Panthers in the bottom of the first. The Mavericks led 4-0 on three hits and two errors.

Alyssa Brumelow got GSU on the board in the top of the third with an RBI-single that scored Baylee Sexton from second, but that would be it for the Panthers.

UTA would tack on four more runs in the fifth and the final run in the sixth to get the win. The game does not count towards the Sun Belt standings.

In the weekend finale, Georgia State faced No. 1 UCLA. The Panthers scored first as freshman Kalynn Hicks singled in a run for her first career hit and RBI.

UCLA tied the game in the bottom of the first and took the lead in the second with a three-run frame.

The score remained 4-1 in favor of the Bruins until the bottom of the fourth when UCLA pushed four runs across. The final run came in the bottom of the sixth to end the game for UCLA.

Georgia State returns to Atlanta and will square off with the Yellow Jackets at Georgia Tech on Wednesday.
