LAFAYETTE, La. – Georgia State dropped Game 1 10-2 in six innings at No. 10 Louisiana Thursday night in Lafayette.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, Georgia State responded with a pair of singles in the top of the second by Remington Hasty and Alyssa Brumelow. Kalynn Hicks then worked a five-pitch walk to load the bases for the Panthers.

With one out, Skylar Mosel lifted a fly ball to the corner in right field which allowed Hasty to tag up and score GSU’s first run of the game.

Louisiana pushed its lead to 4-1 with two more runs in the bottom of the second.

In the top of the third, Reagan Morgan reached safely on an infield single with one out. After a Kristin Hawkins single moved Morgan to second, Hasty laid down a perfect bunt and beat the throw to first. The first baseman couldn’t handle the throw, allowing Morgan to take home on the play, making it a 4-2 game.

That would be as close as GSU would get, however, as Louisiana pulled away with two runs in the third and a three-run fifth inning.

Mallory Parson allowed three earned over 3.1 innings in relief for the Panthers.

GSU and LA will play Game 2 of the series Friday at 7 p.m. ET. There will be a free livestream of Games 2 and 3 on
