AUGUSTA, Ga. – Led by senior Max Herrmann’s season-best fifth-place finish, the Georgia State men’s golf team earned an eighth-place finish on Sunday at the 3M Augusta Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club.
Herrmann shot a final round 3-under 69 that included seven birdies to finish the 54-hole event at 6-under par.
The Panthers shot a final round 4-over 292 and finished the final regular season event at 4-over par.
“Really happy with the way Max played this week,” head coach Chad Wilson said. “This is the type of play that we will need from him and others as we get ready for the conference tournament. We will now spend the next couple of weeks getting ready to defend our Sun Belt title to get us back to NCAA Regional play for a fifth-straight year.”
No. 13 Illinois cruised to a 15-stroke victory at 25-under par following a final round 275. Houston and No. 28 Wake Forest tied for second-place at 10-under par. Kennesaw State and USC Aiken tied for fourth at 6-under par. The Panthers finished just six strokes behind of No. 38 South Carolina and ahead of No. 21 UCLA and No. 40 Marquette.
Illinois’ Dylan Meyer, ranked No. 45 in the country, shot a 69 on Sunday to finish at 11-under par and earn a one-stroke win. Tennessee’s Lorenzo Scalise finished in second-place at 10-under par with Augusta’s Broc Everett coming in third at 8-under par. Wake Forest’s Cameron Young finished in fourth place at 7-under par with Herrmann rounding out the top five at 6-under par.
Georgia State will return to the course April 22-25 for the Sun Belt Conference Championship in Miramar Beach, Fla., looking to win a second-straight and ninth-conference championship in program history.
