BANDON, Ore. – Georgia State opened the eighth annual Bandon Dunes Championship with a 2-under 286 to sit in a tie for fifth-place following the first round on the Old Macdonald Course.
“We got off to a little bit of a slow start today, but we finished extremely well and made a bunch of birdies down the stretch,” head coach Joe Inman said. “I’m really proud of the way Max played. He has been struggling as of late, but has been working hard. That hard work paid off today with a really nice round.”
Herrmann made six birdies during the opening round, while Budd and Williams each added four.
Freshman Josh Edgar, competing as an individual, also shot a 3-over 75 to sit tied with Herrmann.
No. 8 Oregon leads the field by eight strokes following a 13-under 275. No. 21 Colorado and No. 11 Texas Tech are tied for second at 5-under par, with No. 23 Auburn in fourth at 4-under par. Georgia State is tied with No. 12 Texas A&M and Oregon State at 2-under par.
Texas Tech’s Hannes Ronneblad has the first round individual lead after shooting a 7-under 65 on Sunday. Oregon’s Wyndham Clark is second at 6-under par, followed by Denver’s Petter Mikalsen in third at 5-under par. Texas A&M’s Cameron Champ and Washington State’s Derek Bayley are tied for fourth at 4-under par.
