BRASELTON, Ga. – Competing as an individual in his Georgia State debut, junior Severin Soller won the Bridgestone Stroke Play at The Legends at Chateau Elan on Tuesday. Soller, a transfer from Mississippi State, earned a one-stroke win and was the lone player in the 45-man field under par.
Soller opened play on Tuesday morning with a 2-under par 70 that included four birdies. In the second round, he shot 73, but birdied his final hole, the Par 5 9th, to earn his first collegiate victory.
Sophomore Egill Gunnarsson also competed as an individual in the event and finished tied for sixth at 4-over par. Gunnarsson shot rounds of 73 and 75, finishing the day with six birdies.
“Severin played some great golf today,” Director of Golf Joe Inman said. “After not qualifying for our first event of the year, I think he was able to relax and play the type of golf he is capable of. I think he has a great career ahead of him at Georgia State and today was the start of that.”
After Georgia State’s opening event of the season, The Invitational at The Ocean Course was postponed due to Hurricane Irma, the Panthers will formally open the season hosting the Maui Jim Intercollegiate at Desert Forest Golf Club in Carefree, Ariz., starting Friday.
