ATLANTA – Led by a third-straight All-Sun Belt First Team honor for Alex Herrmann, a trio of Georgia State golfers earned league recognition as the annual awards were announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

Along with Herrmann, junior Nick Budd earned All-Sun Belt Second Team honors after garnering third team recognition last year. Junior Severin Soller earned All-Sun Belt Third Team honors in his first season after transferring from Mississippi State.

“I’m extremely pleased to see Alex, Nick and Severin honored in such a fashion,” head coach Chad Wilson said. “Although the season ended early for Alex, he was still able to have a very productive year. We look forward to Nick and Severin returning next season as we look to get back to NCAA Regional play.”

Georgia State was one of five Sun Belt schools (Arkansas State, Georgia Southern, ULM, Coastal Carolina) to have three players honored in the annual awards.

Herrmann becomes just the third golfer in program history to earn all-conference first-team honors at least three times (Jack Croyle and JJ Grey). He recently earned Google Cloud Academic All-District® Men’s At-Large Team honors as selected by CoSIDA, and is now on the national ballot.

This year, despite missing the final four tournaments of the season due to injury, Herrmann still led the Panthers with a 73.17 scoring average and a pair of top 25 results in just six events. In his last collegiate event, he finished tied for fourth at the Auburn Tiger Invitational to lead the Panthers to a second-place finish.

Budd garnered honors for the second year in a row following a season where he led the Panthers with 13 rounds of par or better. His 73.33 scoring average was second on the team as he earned a pair of top 10 finishes and four top 25 results. Budd had a pair of ninth-place finishes this year including the UNCG Grandover Collegiate and the 3M Augusta Invitational.

Soller earns his first Sun Belt postseason honor after a remarkable start to his Georgia State career. Soller won the Bridgestone Stroke Play in his first event with the Panthers and then tied for fourth at the GSU-hosted Autotrader Collegiate Classic. He finished the year with a 73.21 scoring average and four top 25 finishes.

Georgia State’s season concluded in the Sun Belt Conference Championship last month. The Panthers are expected to open the 2018-19 season in early September.
