* The Georgia State men’s golf team shot a second-round 299 to finish 11th at The Invitational at The Ocean Course on Kiawah Island on Monday.
* Tuesday’s final round was canceled due to a state of emergency being declared in South Carolina as Hurricane Florence approaches.
* Senior Nick Budd led the Panthers with a 1-under 71 on Monday to finish in a tie for 36th
This is the second-straight year the opening season event has been affected by a hurricane. Last’s year’s event was canceled before teams arrived.
The Panthers finished the 36-hole event shooting 36-over, but finished 3-under over their final nine holes on Monday.
Senior Nick Budd led the Panthers with a final round 1-under 71 on Monday to tie for 36th at 7-over par.
“After a rough start to the day, I am extremely proud of the way the guys fought back and played over the final nine holes today,” head coach Chad Wilson said. “I’m disappointed that we can’t get back on the course tomorrow to see if we can build off that momentum, but I completely understand the dangerous situation with a powerful hurricane approaching. Our thoughts will be with everyone along the coast who could be affected later this week.”
Freshman David Li shot a second-round 2-over 74 and finished in a tie for 47th at 9-over par. Senior James Kyles added a 75 to tie for 50th at 10-over par.
Sophomore Owen Sertl who was competing as an individual this week shot an 81 on Monday to finish tied for 72nd at 17-over par.
College of Charleston defeated SMU in a one-hole playoff after each team shot 1-over par for 36 holes. Maryland came in third-place at 8-over par, while Ole Miss finished fourth at 10-over par. Georgia Southern and James Madison tied for fifth-place at 16-over par.
SMU’s Ollie Osborne shot a 1-under 71 on Monday to earn low medalist honors at 3-under par. Jackson Suber of Ole Miss finished in
Georgia State will travel to Scottsdale, Ariz., Sept. 21-23, for the third annual Maui Jim Intercollegiate at Mirabel Golf Club. Georgia State will serve as the host for the three-day event that includes several top 25 teams.
