AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Georgia State men’s golf team shot a final round 304 to finish in 14th-place at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club on Sunday.
Junior Josh Edgar led the Panthers with a final round 72 to finish the 54-hole event at 2-over par and tied for 39th.
The Panthers finished at 33-over par in a field that included five teams ranked among the top 50 by GolfStat.
“We unfortunately just made too many bogeys this week to be as competitive as we hoped,” head coach Chad Wilson said. “In such a loaded field, we really needed everyone to step up and contribute and we just didn’t get that. We will get back to practice this week and see what we can do at Auburn next week.”
No. 3 Wake Forest shot a final round 7-under 281 to finish the two-day event at 36-under par and earn the win. No. 19 South Carolina finished in second place at 33-under par, while No. 7 Texas came in third place at 30-under par. No. 37 Arkansas came in fourth place at 19-under par, while Notre Dame rounded out the top five at 11-under par.
Wake Forest’s Cameron Young, ranked No. 22 in the country, shot a final round 69 to finish at 19-under par to earn low medalist honors. South Carolina’s Jamie Wilson came in second place at 12-under par, while Arkansas’ Tyson Reeder placed third at 9-under par. Texas’ Steven Chervony earned a fourth-place finish at 8-under par, while three golfers tied for fifth at 7-under par.
Georgia State will return to the course April 15-16 for the Shoal Creek Invitational hosted by Auburn in Shoal Creek, Ala. It will mark the final regular-season event for the Panthers before the conference tournament.
