ATHENS, Ga.- The Georgia State men’s tennis team successfully opened its tournament schedule at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships Friday. The Panthers went 8-3 in singles play and 4-0 in doubles play.

In the Division I singles bracket, No. 16 Andrei Andrukhou advanced to the Round of 16 with a victory over Remi Chancerel of Florida Atlantic. Sophomore Quentin Coulaud fell in the Round of 32 6-2, 6-1 to Robert Loeb of Georgia.

Jack MacFarlane defeated student-athletes from Radford and Florida Atlantic to advance to the Round of 16 in the Division II singles bracket, while Giles Hussey fell 6-1, 6-4 to Andy Martinez of Georgia. Sebastian Acuna also advanced to the Round of 16, defeating Marc Mila of Tennessee Tech 6-1, 6-4.

Freshman Kevin Huynh advanced to the Division III quarterfinals after defeating student-athletes from Tennessee Tech and Louisville. Andrei Duarte fell in the Round of 16 to Patrik Hartmeier of Georgia Gwinnett 6-4, 6-1, while Bailey Showers advanced the quarterfinals with a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 defeat of Alex Gitin from Florida Atlantic.

In doubles play, Andrukhou and Coulaud will face Oscar Mesquida and Matias Gonzalez of Arkansas tomorrow in the Round of 16 in the Division I doubles bracket. Acuna and MacFarlane will face Frederico Herrera Duran and Mika Kosonen of Georgia Gwinnett tomorrow morning.

In the Division II bracket, Hussey and Huynh will play Fernando Guardia and Stathis Tsiranidis of Mercer while Showers and Duarte will face Gregor Hutterer and Sergio Valinotti of Georgia Gwinnett.

Play will resume tomorrow morning at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
