ATLANTA- The Georgia State men’s tennis team completed the first day of play at the Georgia Tech Fall Invite, with two double pairs advancing to the final rounds in their brackets.
In the Old Gold Doubles flight, Sebastian Acuna and Jack MacFarlane defeated the No. 2 seed on their way to the finals where they will face the No. 1 seed from host Georgia Tech Sunday afternoon. Andrei Andrukhou and Quentin Coulaud fell to No. 1 seed Carlos Divar and Michael Kay in the semifinal round.
Giles Hussey and Kevin Huynh made it to the final round of the White Doubles bracket, defeating the No. 1 seeded pair in the semifinals. No. 2 Bailey Showers and Andrei Duarte fell 8-5 in the semifinals to Brandon Freestone and Elijah Melendez fo Virginia.
In singles play, one round was completed before tomorrow’s action. In the Old Gold bracket, Hussey defeated Olle Thestrup 2-6, 7-5, 7-5, while MacFarlane fell to No. 3 Thomas Mayronne of South Carolina. No. 4 Andrukhou advanced after a 7-5, 6-4 defeat of Melendez, with Acuna falling to Jason Kros of Virginia Tech in the tie-breaker set.
In the White Singles bracket, Showers fell to Chase Bernstine while Huynh defeated Jerome Romauldez of Virginia Tech 6-1, 6-1. Duarte will compete in the back draw after falling to Thomas Brown of South Carolina, while No. 2 Coulaud advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-3 defeat of Ryan Kros of Virginia Tech.
Play in both singles brackets will resume tomorrow morning.
