ATLANTA- Following a 3-2 start to the season, the Georgia State men’s tennis team will continue road play for the ITA Kickoff Weekend hosted by No. 7 Texas A&M. LSU and Cal Poly are the other two teams at the regional, with the Mustangs slated to compete with the No. 2 seed Panthers in the opening round Saturday morning.
This is the second year in a row that GSU has competed in the ITA Kickoff Weekend, traveling to Wake Forest last season. Georgia State placed second at the Salem-Winston Regional, falling to host Wake Forest in the championship round.
The Panthers are off to a solid start this season, with their only two losses coming against top-30 teams. The team has swept two opponents in its three wins, with sophomore Quentin Coulaud clinching the last two matches.
Acuna and partner Andrei Duarte are 2-1 in doubles play, with the pair clinching the doubles point in the 4-0 win over North Florida. Huynh and Hussey is the other leading doubles pair, ranking No. 56 in the last ITA Rankings.
Cal Poly is 2-0 this season, defeating Pacific and Sacramento State last weekend in its season opener. First serve against the Mustangs is set for noon on Saturday. Georgia State will play either LSU or Texas A&M Sunday, with the overall champion earning a bid to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
