PEACHTREE CITY, Ga.- The Georgia State men’s tennis team earned a 4-0 sweep over Coastal Carolina Friday afternoon in the opening round of the Sun Belt Conference Championship. Senior Andrei Andrukhou clinched the match, his fourth of the year.
With the win, the Panthers improved to 13-10 while the Chanticleers fell to 6-15.
GSU earned the doubles point at the bottom two positions, quickly going up 1-0. Bailey Showers and Andrukhou earned a 6-1 victory at the No. 3 position. Giles Hussey and Jack MacFarlane clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win, their sixth doubles clinch of the season.
Georgia State breezed through singles play, taking the top, middle, and bottom positions. Showers earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 6 position, and Hussey put GSU at 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at the No. 3 position. Andrukhou clinched the match at the No. 1 position, earning a 6-1, 6-4 win over Luiz Faria.
Georgia State will face No. 4 Troy tomorrow in the semifinals at 3 p.m. at the Peachtree City Tennis Center in Peachtree City, Ga. The tennis center is located 30 miles south of Atlanta, off exit 61 on i85 South. Admission to the tournament is free.
