ATLANTA – The Georgia State men’s tennis team heads to Baton Rouge, La., to begin its 2019 spring slate at the LSU Invitational this weekend, opening the year with a matchup against New Orleans Saturday morning.

The Panthers return to the court after a successful fall tournament slate, ending with a 94-66 overall record and will look to carry that momentum into the spring season after 2018 Sun Belt Co-Coach of the Year Jonathan Wolff led GSU to the No. 1 seed in last year’s conference tournament.

GSU brings back seven student-athletes from last season and welcomes four incoming freshmen, the biggest freshman class since 2014. Newcomers Roberts Grinvalds, Diego Padilha and Vazha Shubladze will all get their first taste of spring dual matches this weekend.

Those returning include Giles Hussey and Andrei Duarte, two players who collected all-conference honors for the Panthers last year. Also back for GSU is Quentin Coulaud, who earned eight victories at the No. 2 position in 2018.

First serve against New Orleans is set for 10:30 a.m. ET Saturday, with singles play only. Georgia State will take on either LSU or Lamar in the second round on Saturday and round out the tournament with a final match on Sunday.
