JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Georgia State men’s tennis capped Saturday’s doubleheader with a 4-0 sweep over Southern Miss after falling to ETSU 4-0 in the first match of the day at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex.

The Panthers leave Johnson City with a 7-7 overall record and will have a week off before they round out the bulk of the nonconference schedule with matches at South Florida on March 18 and Florida Gulf Coast on March 20.

GSU entered the weekend having clinched the doubles point in four consecutive matches, but saw its streak come to an end against the Bucs as it dropped contests on courts one and three. ETSU went on to secure the win 4-0, just the second time Georgia State has been swept this season.

In the second match of the day, the blue and white regrouped and got off to a strong start by taking the doubles point from duos Andrei Duarte/Roberts Grinvalds and Quentin Coulaud/Kevin Huynh. Coulaud and Huynh improved to 2-0 at the No. 3 doubles position this year.

Duarte and Huynh kept things rolling in singles play, as both earned victories in straight sets. Grinvalds also notched a win in singles, his second of the season at the No. 1 spot. Duarte, a sophomore from Atlanta, picked up his third clinch of 2019, surpassing teammate Giles Hussey for the most on the team.

Georgia State is back in action March 18 for a match against USF in Tampa, Fla.
