ATLANTA -- Three nationally-televised games, a trip to Atlantic Coast Conference foe NC State and the season-ending home date with in-state rival Georgia Southern highlight Georgia State's 2018 football schedule, announced Tuesday by the Sun Belt Conference.
Coming off a winning season and their first bowl game victory, head coach Shawn Elliott's Panthers open the 2018 season by hosting local foe Kennesaw State on Thursday, Aug. 30 at "Pete" Petit Field at Georgia State Stadium.
After the trip to NC State in Week 2, Georgia State will play at Memphis in a Friday night game that will be nationally televised on one of the ESPN networks (network TBD) on Sept. 14. That is the first of three national television opportunities already scheduled for the Panthers, who will play at Troy on Thursday, Oct. 4 and at Arkansas State two weeks later on Thursday, Oct. 18, both on ESPNU.
In addition to Kennesaw State, NC State and Memphis, the Panthers' fourth non-conference game is the Sept. 22 home game against Western Michigan.
Georgia State opens its Sun Belt Conference slate at home against ULM on Sept. 29. The Panthers also host Coastal Carolina (Oct. 27), Texas State (Nov. 3) and Georgia Southern (Nov. 24) in conference play, while travelling to Troy, Arkansas State, Louisiana and Appalachian State.
The Sun Belt’s inaugural championship game will be played on Saturday, Dec. 1, and will air on ABC, ESPN, or ESPN2. The game will feature the winners of the Sun Belt’s two divisions and will take place at the home site of the divisional champion with the best overall conference winning percentage.
The 2018 season will be the first year of divisional play, as previously announced:
East: GEORGIA STATE, Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, Troy
West: Arkansas State, Louisiana, ULM, South Alabama, Texas State
