After a thrilling 24-20 win over Kennesaw State in its season opener, Georgia State (1-0) hits the road to face Atlantic Coast Conference foe NC State (1-0) Saturday in Raleigh, N.C.

* In his first Division I game, quarterback Dan Ellington threw three touchdown passes, including the 8-yard game-winner to Diondre Champaigne with 41 seconds left. The junior college transfer was 20-for-28 for 187 yards while rushing for 77 yards on 18 attempts.

* The winning drive covered 73 yards on nine plays as the Panther defense held on fourth down to give GSU the ball with 2:01 left and no timeouts. Ellington also rallied from a 14-0 first-half deficit with two touchdown passes in the final minute of the first half.

* Georgia State has won eight of its last 11 games.

* The Panthers have won five straight road contests and six straight games away from home with the 2017 AutoNation Cure Bowl victory over Western Kentucky.

* The Panthers feature one of the nation’s most prolific receivers in junior Penny Hart, a Preseason All-American who led the Sun Belt Conference in 2017 with a school-record 74 receptions for 1,121 yards and eight touchdowns.

* Hart, who had a 3-yard touchdown vs. Kennesaw State, ranks first among all active FBS receivers in career receptions per game (5.64) and receiving yards per game (83.1). He ranks second in receiving yards (2,327), fifth in receptions (158) and third in TD receptions (18), all in 28 games.

* Two transfers made a big impact for the Panthers' receiving corp. Junior college transfer Diondre Champaigne caught the winning touchdown on an 8-yard reception with 41 seconds left. South Carolina transfer Christian Owens had six catches for 70 yards, including a 6-yard TD catch with three seconds left in the first half.

* Georgia State and NC State are meeting for the first time. The Panthers’ only previous game against an ACC foe was a 28-0 loss at Clemson in 2014. This will be the Panthers’ 10th game against an opponent from a Power Five conference in nine seasons of football. That includes two games at Alabama and trips to Tennessee, West Virginia, Clemson, Washington, Oregon, Wisconsin and Penn State.

* The game at NC State is a homecoming for Georgia State athletic director Charlie Cobb, a four-year football letterwinner for the Wolfpack (1987-90). He then returned to NC State to serve as an associate athletic director from 1998-05. Charlie’s wife Lindsay was an All-ACC goal keeper for the NC State women’s soccer team.

* Now in its ninth season of football, Georgia State will be playing on natural grass for just the ninth time in its history.
