* The Georgia State women’s golf team shot an opening round 307 to stand in 14th place at the FIU Pat Bradley Classic at Lakewood Ranch Golf Club on Sunday.
* Sophomore Chloe Howard led the Panthers with an even-par 72 on Sunday to sit in a tie for 10th place.
* Junior Harmanprit Kaur added a 2-over 74 for the Panthers on the opening day.
LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. – Georgia State sophomore Chloe Howard shot an opening round 72 to stand at even par and in a tie for 10th place following the first round of 41st annual FIU Pat Bradley Classic at Lakewood Ranch Golf Club.
Howard birdied her first hole and then made just one bogey the rest of the round to stand just four strokes off the lead with 36 holes to play.
Georgia State stands in 14th place following a 19-over 307, but in a tightly-bunched field is just seven strokes out of sixth place.
“We made a few too many big numbers today which kept us from having a good score,” head coach Cathy Mant said. “However, it is a closely packed field, so we are definitely not out of having a very good finish. We just need to come out strong on Monday, make a few more birdies and we should be in good shape.”
Junior Harmanprit Kaur added a 2-over 74 and is tied for 29th entering the second round. Freshman Emma Berlin shot an 8-over par 80 and is tied for 67th. Sophomore Petra Duran and freshman Maria Blasco rounded out the line-up as each shot a 9-over 81 and are tied for 74th.
Southern Miss and McNeese State lead the 15-team field at 2-under par. South Florida is in third place at even par, while UTEP is in fourth place at 2-over par. Cincinnati rounds out the top five at 6-over par.
South Florida’s Natalia Villavicencio leads the field following a 4-under par 68. Jacksonville’s Amanda Detmer is in second place at 3-under par. Southern Miss teammates Valentina Haupt and Henriette Syr, along with McNeese State’s Anika Hovda and Wyoming’s Erin Sargent are tied for third place at 2-under par.

Georgia State will be paired with UMKC and Florida Atlantic for the second round on Monday beginning at 9 a.m. off Hole No. 10.
Following this week’s tournament, Georgia State will close out the fall season at the Alexa Stirling Women’s Invitational hosted by Louisville at Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek beginning next Friday.
